Overview
The Madeline Pickett (Halbert) Cogswell Nursing Scholarship provides two awards of $2,500 each to students who have been accepted to or are currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be United States citizens.
- Candidates must be attending, or planning to attend, an accredited college or university in the United States.
- For this specific nursing scholarship, applicants must be accepted into or enrolled in an accredited school of nursing.
Selection criteria
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, dedication to the chosen field of study, demonstrated financial need, or other criteria specific to individual scholarships.
Renewability and limits
- Multi-year scholarships are generally renewable for up to four years but renewals require consecutive years of enrollment.
- An applicant may receive only one national scholarship from the DAR Scholarship Committee.
Award payment
Scholarship funds are deposited with the recipient’s college or university. Any portion of the award that remains unused must be returned to the DAR.
How to apply
The DAR Scholarship Committee requires all scholarship applications to be submitted through its online application system. Paper or emailed applications will not be accepted, except in the case of the Margaret Howard Hamilton Scholarship, which remains an exception.
