Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers
The STLE Presidential Awards Program offers three distinct academic awards: The E. Richard Booser Scholarship for undergraduate students, The Elmer E. Klaus Fellowship for graduate students, and The Jeanie S. McCoy Scholarship for female students. These awards, managed by the STLE Presidential Council, aim to inspire students to seek advanced degrees or careers in tribology or lubrication engineering by funding a related research project. Since its inception in 1995, STLE has awarded over $182,000 to more than 40 recipients, fostering career development in the field.
E. Richard Booser Scholarship
The E. Richard Booser Scholarship is designed to motivate undergraduate students to consider graduate studies or a career in tribology. It offers them the chance to engage in tribology research. Applicants must be enrolled in a science or engineering program. The selection process considers a recommendation letter from a faculty advisor or educator, the relevance of the research to tribology, and the quality of the proposed research experience. The scholarship amount awarded to the student is $4,500.
Eligibility for Booser Scholarship
Previous recipients of the McCoy award are eligible to apply for the Booser Scholarship, provided their research significantly differs from their previous award submission. However, students cannot win the Booser award more than once.
The application period for the 2024-2025 STLE Booser Scholarship has ended. Applications for the 2025-2026 scholarship period will commence in September 2025.
