Introduction
The Alaska State Firefighters Association (ASFA) aims to support its members by promoting professionalism and leadership to strengthen Fire/Rescue/EMS services across Alaska. The association represents 1,100 firefighters statewide.
Scholarship Overview
As a member benefit, ASFA will award up to $4,000 per year to qualifying graduating high school seniors connected to ASFA members in good standing. Applicants who are active members of an ASFA chapter (including Explorers or Cadets) are also eligible.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be a graduating senior from an Alaska high school.
- Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
- Applicant must be a dependent of an ASFA member in good standing, or be an active ASFA Chapter member (Explorer or Cadet).
- Applicant must provide a letter of acceptance from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school.
- Application materials must be received by ASFA by MAY 15.
Application Checklist and Submission Instructions
Please submit the complete application packet (no folders or binders, please). The packet must include:
- Completed application form signed by the applicant, and by a school counselor and/or principal. A parent/guardian signature is required unless the applicant is 18 years of age or older.
- A personal statement (no more than two pages) describing family and school background, planned post-secondary education, and intended career goals.
- A copy of the current high school transcript.
All required documents and grades must be in ASFA’s hands by MAY 15 for review by the Scholarship Committee. Incomplete packages or those missing any required item will not be considered.
Use of Award
- Scholarship funds must be applied toward tuition, fees, housing (room and board), and textbooks only.
- Recipients must begin their post-secondary attendance within 12 months of high school graduation.
