ASBC Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Alfred Street Baptist Church
Overview
The ASBC Foundation offers scholarships to support students pursuing four-year college degrees. There are two distinct award categories: Millennium Scholarships and Legacy Scholarships.
Scholarship Details
- Millennium Scholarships: Sponsored by Alfred Street Baptist Church and the ASBC Foundation, each Millennium award totals $20,000 and is distributed as $5,000 per year for four years. Two Millennium Scholarships are granted each year.
- Legacy Scholarships: These awards are provided by individual donors or groups. Donors may set additional eligibility conditions beyond the Foundation’s baseline requirements and decide the award amounts. Legacy awards typically range from $1,000 to $7,500. Most are one-time grants, though a small number may be renewed for up to four years.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for an ASBC Foundation scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following:
1. Be a high school graduate from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area by June 30 of the application year. The eligible jurisdictions are: Washington, D.C.; Alexandria, VA; Arlington County, VA; Fairfax County, VA; Falls Church, VA; Prince William County, VA; Prince George’s County, MD; Montgomery County, MD; and Charles County, MD. (If you are a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church, you may live in other Maryland or Virginia counties and still qualify.)
2. Be a U.S. citizen.
3. Have been admitted to and committed to enroll at a four-year college or university.
4. Show a record of community service.
5. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Submitting SAT and/or ACT scores is optional but may strengthen your application.
6. Demonstrate financial need.
How to Apply / Required Documents
All applicants must complete and submit the application through the Foundation’s online system. Supporting documents — such as official transcripts, letters of recommendation, and test scores — must be uploaded in the online submission portal and, where appropriate, signed by a counselor or other school official.
If emailing official documents would violate your school’s policies or would incur a fee, you may mail hard copies of supplemental materials (transcripts, recommendations, and test scores signed by a counselor or other school official). Mailed materials must arrive by the application deadline to be accepted.
